What Coaching Means at Simplify Coaching
Coaching is a partnership. According to the International Coaching Federation (ICF), coaching is “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximise their potential.” ICF+1
Unlike psychology or therapy, which focus deeply on the past and treat mental health issues, coaching focuses on the present and future — helping you create practical steps, build skills and achieve what matters to you now. Verywell Mind
At Simplify Coaching, we draw on elements of behaviour science and psychology through our work in positive behaviour support and the disability sector. But our coaching service is a separate private service, funded directly by you — not by NDIS.
Coaching under our private model vs coaching as part of PBS
-
If you are already part of an NDIS-funded Behaviour Support Plan with us or another provider, it’s important to recognise there could be a conflict of interest if you access private coaching through the same provider. We strongly encourage you to explore coaching options freely so that your choice is independent and best suits your needs.
-
If you are not part of any contracted PBS arrangement with us, you’re welcome to engage our coaching service directly.
We do not promise that coaching will solve everything. We promise to partner with you, to listen, to act and reflect with you.
What coaching means here
Coaching is a partnership that helps you turn intentions into actions. The International Coaching Federation defines coaching as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process to help them maximize their potential. Coaching focuses on the present and the future. Psychology focuses more on assessment and treatment of mental health conditions. We draw respectfully on behaviour science and practical skills from PBS, but this coaching service is separate and privately funded, not NDIS funded. PubMed
Important note about conflicts of interest
-
If you are already part of an NDIS Behaviour Support arrangement with us, there can be a conflict of interest if you also purchase private coaching from us. You are free to choose any coach you like, and we encourage you to explore options.
-
If you are not part of a PBS arrangement with us, you can engage this private coaching directly.
Why Coaching Matters – The Science of Co-Regulation
Whether you’re a parent or a support worker, your ability to stay calm, present, and emotionally balanced shapes the environment around you.
Children — and adults — co-regulate with those they trust. When you are regulated, you provide the nervous system template for others to feel safe and steady.
Science explains this through mirror neurons: specialised brain cells that activate both when we act and when we observe someone else acting. These systems allow us to “feel into” the emotional states of others.
When you stay calm, breathe steadily, and speak gently, the person you’re supporting subconsciously mirrors that state. Over time, this process helps them build their own capacity for regulation.
Research in developmental psychology and neuroscience shows that:
-
Emotional regulation in caregivers and professionals predicts stronger attachment, learning, and behavioural outcomes.
-
Calm, attuned adults reduce stress reactivity in those they support and improve the success of skill-building programs.
-
Consistency and predictability in your tone, pace, and presence help shift others from defensive or survival states into connection and engagement.
In simple terms: your calm is the foundation for their growth.
Coaching gives you the tools, space, and reflection time to strengthen that foundation — so you can support others without burning out or losing yourself in the process.
